English Placement Testing

Students who have not completed their English placement assessment by the end of August are automatically placed in a foundation-level class. Students still have the opportunity to take the placement test until the 5th day of class, after which they might stay in COMM1003, or be placed directly into COMM1007 (the English class offered at Sunnybrook for the program).

The Assessment Centre is located:

·    Casa Loma - room C343

·    Saint James - room 275

·    Waterfront - room 532, located on the lower level of the Library Learning Commons - entry through the main Library entrance on the 6th floor

Information about the placement assessment and the Assessment Centre's hours of operation is available at http://www.georgebrown.ca/assessment and at the Assessment Centre locations.

Students can expect long lines during the last few weeks of placement testing, so it is recommended that students complete testing as early as possible.

Accommodations:

  • Students need to be registered with Accessibility Services before the placement test

  • If possible, they should book their accommodations with the Assessment Centre with as much notice as possible, either in person, or by emailing booktest@georgebrown.ca. Some accommodations can be provided on the spot, but others require notice.

COMM1007

The COMM1007 is the English course requirement for the program. There is a professor that comes to the classroom at Sunnybrook to teach the course so that students do not have to go to the other GBC campuses.

Professor: Stuart Broomer

Classroom: UG76

Occuring: every Monday

Email:  sbroomer@georgebrown.ca

Applications for exemptions/transfer credits can be done for English as well, done through Stu-View. If you do not have an English course from your previous studies, some other courses that have been used in the past to count towards exemption are History, Humanities or Stats.
