Many clinics keep their casts after the device is made as a back up. They are kept in case the device fails or they have to remake any portion of it. Removing the device from the cast without damaging the cast can be quite a challenge in some cases. The stiffness of a reinforced ankle foot orthosis (RAFO) provides some of these challenges. This video (audio included) shows how to remove a stubborn RAFO from a cast with minimal effort and no severe damage to the cast.
