Bowden Cable Assembly

Below is an Instructional Video on how to measure and assemble a Bowden Cable, used on a Trans Radial Device.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

1) TERMINAL PLACEMENT

Attach Terminal Device in Maximum Pronated Position
2) CABLE LENGTH
Measure Cable from Terminal Attachment Point, Crossing the Device Ending 5 cm Proximal
Border of Triceps Cuff
3) TRIPLE SWIVEL
Place Triple Swivel in Vice, Roll on Rubber Gromet (soap can be used as lubricant)
4) SWAGING
Place Swaging Tool in Vice & Clamp Using Appropriate Slot
5) HOUSING LENGTH
Distal End 6 cm Minumum from Triple Swivel
6) FERREL ATTACHMENT
Crimp Using Side Cutters !!Not Too Tight!!
7) RETAINER AND CROSSBAR ATTACHMENT
Thread on Parts by Hand, or Use Power Drill for Quick and Easy Placement! Attach Final Ferrel.
8) BASE PLATE LOCATION AND ATTACHMENT
“Location TBD” Return Terminal Device to Neutral Position, Follow Natural Progression of
Cable/Housing. Attach Using Self Tapping Screws.
9) FINAL HOUSING ADJUSTMENT
Place Retainer in Base Plate. Distal Ferrel Should be 6 cm from Terminal Attachment Point.
10) FINAL CABLE LENGTH
Return Terminal Device to Maximum Pronation. Cut Cable 1.5 cm from Proximal Cable Housing
Ferrel.
11) HANGER ATTACHMENT
Repeat Swaging Technique for Hanger on Proximal End of Cable
12) FINAL STEPS
Return Crossbar to Crossbar Attachment Holder. Attach Control Strap Through Hanger.
